USA: National Covid-19 Preparedness Plan, issued March 2022

The US has recently issued a National Covid-19 Preparedness Plan. It’s a weighty ninety-seven-page document, it has some pretty good ideas, and it has a whole section devoted to outbreaks with new variants. There’s a promise of more sequencing too, something that is long overdue.

On Long Covid, the biggest health challenge in human history, it says: “Make no mistake, as America moves forward we will leave no one behind. Equity will remain at the very center of our path forward in the fight against COVID-19. And we will be there to support Americans with the long-term impacts of COVID-19, including people experiencing Long COVID or mental and behavioral health challenges; as well as families suffering from the tragedy of losing someone they loved.”

At the very least, it shows that the Biden administration is more focused on the virus than the disastrously unprepared Trump administration, which can only be a good thing.
