Denmark to cull 15 million mink to prevent a coronavirus mutation

Coronavirus, Denmark, Europe, Health, Mink, Science

Denmark will cull all 15 million mink bred in its territory due to a Covid-19 mutation already passed on to 12 people, which threatens the effectiveness of a future vaccine for humans. This was announced by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

“The virus mutated through mink can create the risk that the future vaccine will not work as it should. It is necessary to slaughter all the minks,” that is 15 to 17 million animals, according to authorities, the premier said at a press conference.
