China’s CDC has just published its latest report on Covid-19 variants circulating in the country, and XBB.1.9.1 has seen a significant increase in cases from last week when it recorded just 2 cases.

The full latest variant report from China, dated 25th March 2023, can be viewed below, or online here.

The latest Covid variant map from the Chinese CDC paper is not easy to read, but what is clear is some of the recent dominant variants such as BA.5.2.48 and BF.7.14 look like they might have peaked. The XBB recombinant toehold isn’t yet strong enough to display clearly on this chart.
