Ireland: highest Covid numbers since January 2021 despite 92.5% vaccination rate
Ireland has reported the highest 7 day Covid case rate since the peak of January 2021 wave. The current case rate is three times what it was at the same point last year. Covid deaths are also increasing alarmingly, and hospitals are “filling up”.
“The Irish Department of Health has reported 3,726 new cases of Covid-19. The number of patients being treated in hospital was 493 as of 8am on Tuesday, it said, with 90 in ICU. The figure represents the highest number of cases recorded in one day since January 14th, when 3,955 cases were reported.
Despite this latest rise in numbers, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said that โwe have to be concerned that things will deteriorate furtherโ. He said the situation was very serious and having an impact on hospitals which were filling up.
