Big rise in Covid sick and dying in Birmingham hospitals as more older people infected
The number of patients admitted to hospitals in Birmingham with coronavirus has jumped up dramatically as more older, vulnerable people catch the virus.
There are 33 patients currently fighting for life in intensive care units at the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands and Good Hope hospitals, the majority at the QE.
They are among 291 people undergoing treatment in the hospitals. The majority of them (242) are newly infected and deemed ‘active’ cases.
