Japan: BA.2.75 confirmed in Kobe

Kobe City announced that the new mutant virus BA.2.75 has been confirmed in the city. The city says it is the first confirmation in the whole of the country, except for domestic quarantine.

According to the city of Kobe, on the 24th of last month, a woman in her 40s in the city had symptoms of coughing and fever, so when she visited a medical institution, it was confirmed that she was infected with the new coronavirus.

After that, when the city collected a female sample and analyzed the genome, it was found that it was a new mutant virus called BA.2.75, a subvariant of the BA.2 Omicron strain.

The woman has not travelled within 14 days before the onset of the disease, and no contact with people who have traveled abroad has been confirmed. Kobe City states that “the possibility of community-acquired infection cannot be ruled out.”
