Italy: BA.4 detected in Lombardy

The BA.4 variant, the new Omicron sub-variant under consideration by the World Health Organization (WHO), has been genotyped in Monza, Lombardy.

The new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus was identified yesterday and so far had not yet been sequenced in Italy.

3rd May 2022:

There are 62,071 new infections from Covid recorded in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

There are 153 new Covid deaths.

There are 411,047 molecular and antigenic swabs for the coronavirus carried out in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate is 15.1%, stable compared to Monday (when it was 15.4%). 366 patients are admitted to intensive care. Daily admissions are 45. There are 9,695 people admitted to ordinary wards.
