Two to 4 weeks after a booster dose, vaccine effectiveness ranged from around 65% to 75%, dropping to 55% to 70% at 5 to 9 weeks and 40% to 50% from 10+ weeks after the booster.

From the UKHSA web page for Covid variants including Omicron updated 31st December 2021:

“As set out last week, the effectiveness of all vaccines against symptomatic infection continues to be lower in all periods against Omicron compared to Delta. The latest data confirmed that among those who had received 2 doses of AstraZeneca, there was no effect against Omicron from 20 weeks after the second dose. Among those who had received 2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna, effectiveness dropped from around 65 to 70% down to around 10% by 20 weeks after the second dose. Two to 4 weeks after a booster dose, vaccine effectiveness ranged from around 65 to 75%, dropping to 55 to 70% at 5 to 9 weeks and 40 to 50% from 10+ weeks after the booster.”

Below is the hospitalization table for Omicron from the latest UKHSA Omicron report:

The chart above shows that 66.4% of those hospitalized for Omicron are double or triple vaccinated, and more than 72% of hospitalizations have had at least one dose of vaccine. Children who are too young to be vaccinated but are hospitalized with Omicron will be included in the figures for the unvaccinated.

In the meantime, Nightingale wards are being built near hospitals to cope with the ever-growing influx of casualties from the UK government’s hands-off approach to the Covid pandemic.
