USA: Sars-CoV-2 association with PM2.5 particles during wildfire smoke events

We found that a 10 µg/m3 increase in the 7-day average PM2.5 concentration was associated with a 6.3% relative increase in the SARS-CoV-2 test positivity rate, with a 95% confidence interval (CI) of 2.5 to 10.3%. This corresponded to an estimated 17.7% (CI: 14.4–20.1%) increase in the number of cases during the time period most affected by wildfire smoke, from 16 Aug to 10 Oct 2020. article

USA: At least 125,000 vaccine breakthrough infections, 1,400 dead

At least 125,000 fully vaccinated Americans have tested positive for Covid and 1,400 of those have died, according to data collected by NBC News.  The total number of breakthrough cases is likely higher than 125,683, since nine states, including Pennsylvania and Missouri, did not provide any information, while 11, like Florida, did not provide death and hospitalization totals. Four states gave death and hospitalization numbers, but not the full tally of cases.

Nevada: 58 #coronavirus vaccine breakthrough cases reported

58 Nevadans who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 have tested positive for the disease, something state health officials had anticipated. It is not publicly known how ill people with the rare “breakthrough cases” have become, or which novel coronavirus strain they have. Health officials did not disclose which vaccines had been administered in those cases, but they said most had occurred in Clark County.

Nevada and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention define a breakthrough case as a person testing positive for COVID-19 two or more weeks after a final vaccine dose.
